The manager of Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag has cleared the air explaining why the club decided to sign Jonny Evans on a short-term deal.
Erik Ten Hag was speaking in a press conference when he was asked about what influence Jonny Evans will add to the club. According to him, the defender has been influential to the rest of the squad since he joined since the start of the pre-season tour.
"He helps us with numbers. Really useful to manage the load. Jonny wants to stay fit, have a career. Last week he played a good game, mentally he was pushing younger players to a higher level. We help him as well."
Evans left Manchester United in 2015 to join West Brom. He spent three years at the Hawthorns before joining Leicester City in 2018. The defender left the foxes as a free agent last season ( 2022/23) which was at the end of his contract.
However, it is left to be seen if Evans will sign a long-term contract before the transfer window closes.
