The head coach of Chelsea, Enzo Maresca has for the first time reacted to the racial comments that were made by Enzo Fernandez against France players during Argentina's Copa America 2024 celebration.
The Italian was speaking at his first official press conference as a Chelsea manager ahead of the Pre-season game against Wrexham. Enzo Maresca was asked about the situation with Fernandez following the incident which has triggered different opinions among football fans around the world.
He said,
"I don't think there will be problems with Enzo Fernandez when he returns. There were no bad intentions, and I spoke with Enzo. It's all clear now. It is all clarified by the player and the club, so that's it. Enzo has apologised, there's no problem at all."
Fernandes apologised to everyone who felt offended by the song chants made by him and his teammates. Chelsea and the Premier League have also reacted to the situation by condemning the act and has promised to take steps to ensure that the situation does not repeat itself.
