Manchester City's Premier League title challenge takes another twist

Manchester City's first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season due to an injury sustained in the game against Tottenham.

The club confirmed the news on its official website on Thursday, May 16, 2024. According to reports from the club, Ederson suffered an injury to his eye socket after colliding with Christain Romero in the second half of the game.

Although Ederson initially continued playing, he was later substituted in the 69th minute with Stefan Ortega coming in to replace him. Scans revealed a small fracture in his eye socket, which has led to his absence from the upcoming Premier League fixture against West Ham and the FA Cup final against Manchester United.

Manchester City confirmed that Ederson will miss the final two games of the season due to a small fracture in his eye socket.

"Manchester City can confirm that Ederson will miss the final two games of the season due to a small fracture of his eye socket. The Brazilian goalkeeper suffered the injury during our 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening. He has since undergone scans of the affected area that have revealed a small fracture to the right eye socket. The injury will prevent Ederson from playing any further part in the remaining games of the 2023/24 season. Everyone at the Club wishes Ederson a speedy recovery."

How long will Ederson be out for?

While Manchester City did not confirm the duration of Ederson's absence, he is expected to recover in time to join Brazil for the Copa America.
