Nothing prepared the football world for the latest announcement made by Real Madrid forward and Belgian Eden Hazard. Hazard has confirmed that he will be retiring from international football at the age of 31.

Eden Hazard and the entire Belgian side had a woeful world cup 2022 outing in Qatar as the Red Devils failed to secure a spot in the round of 16 of the tournament, bringing the once-golden team to an end.

Hazard follows in the footsteps of former coach Roberto Martinez to leave the side after the World Cup 2022. It was reported that the side had a fallout after suffering a defeat at the hands of the Teranga Lions of Morocco in the group stages of the competition. Belgium had failed to secure a win in the must-win match against a Croatian side.

Eden has also not been having the best of times at his club side Real Madrid following a move away from Chelsea. The maestro who had scored 33 goals in 126 caps had been an integral part of Belgium finishing 3rd at the World Cup 2018.

Eden Hazard announced his retirement in a post on social media that read:

'Today I turn a page. Thanks for your love

Thank you for your unparalleled support. Thank you for all the joyful moments we have shared since 2008.

Today I decided to put an end to my career as an international. The next generation is ready. I'm going to miss you so much.'
