Diego Simeone in his latest post-match press conference for Atletico Madrid has revealed why Ademola Lookman has not scored a goal for the club so far.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has explained why Ademola Lookman is yet to score for the club in La Liga, admitting that the Nigerian forward has been playing outside his preferred position.

Lookman has been used as a central striker in Atletico's opening league matches due to the injury to Alexander Sorloth and Julian Alvarez's ongoing issues with the club.

Simeone acknowledged that the tactical adjustment has limited some of Lookman's biggest strengths, particularly his ability to dribble, take on defenders one-on-one and create goalscoring opportunities from wider positions.

The Argentine manager apologised to Lookman for asking him to operate in an unfamiliar role and suggested that the Nigerian could become more effective once Atletico's attacking options are fully available.

With Sorloth injured and Alvarez still building up his fitness, Simeone has had to rely on Lookman through the middle, despite the forward being more comfortable when given the freedom to attack from wider areas.
