Barcelona release an official statement on Gavi's injury

It was a heartbreaking moment for Barcelona and the Spanish supporters after it was reported by different sources that Gavi could be out for the rest of the season.

Barcelona confirmed in a statement released on its official website on Monday, November 20, 2023, that Gavi has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus. According to the club, the player will have surgery in the coming days after which the club will release another update.

Gavi was injured on international duty for Spain in the final game of the team's European Championship qualifying group against Georgia. The Barça midfielder was forced off after just 26 minutes of the game.

Gavi has made 15 appearances for Barça, having started 13 of those games. The midfielder has scored against Villarreal in the league and Royal Antwerp in the Champions League and he has also provided one assist.

The 19-year-old made his debut against Getafe, he has made 111 appearances, 89 as a starter and has scored seven goals and provided 12 assists. He has won the league title, in 2022/23, and the Spanish Super Cup in the same season.
