Women's defending champion at the Australian Open, Naomi Osaka booked her spot in the third round on the third day of the first grand slam of the year.

Osaka wasted no time in beating her opponent Madison Brengle in straight sets 6-0, 6-4, to continue her quest of winning the trophy for the second year in a row. She faces Amanda Anisimova in the third round.
Ashleigh Barty also booked her spot in the next round with an easy win over Lucia Bronzetti in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, in less than an hour. In other results Julena Ostapenko came back from a set down for the second time in this competition to beat Alison Riske 4-6, 6-2,6-4.
In the Men's category, there was an upset, as World Number 69, Adrian Mannarino stunned the crowd by beating 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets 6-4,6-2,6-3 to book a third-round spot. Alexander Zverev also got past John Millman in straight sets 6-4,6-4,6-0 to qualify for the third round.
