The reports coming out of the Emirates confirmed that the Gunners' sporting director, Edu Gaspar has made contact with the former Leeds United player, according to Evening Standard. Arsenal were initially interested in signing Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shaktar Donetsk but the deal was hijacked by Chelsea Football Club.

The Ukraine international will have a medical on Sunday after both Chelsea and Shakhtar agreed to a £ 88 million deal. Both Chelsea and Arsenal tried to sign the Brazilian in the summer, but he decided to join the Catalonia club.

Mikel Arteta has not hidden his desire to sign a forward player following the injury to Gabriel Jesus as they look to win the Premier League title this season.
