Recent reports suggest that Carlo Ancelotti may be leaving his position as coach of Real Madrid, with a potential replacement already identified.

Reports suggest that former Real Madrid star player and Bayer Leverkusen's coach, Xabi Alonso is being considered to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid’s manager next summer, following Alonso’s impressive achievements in the German Bundesliga last season.

The Spanish coach has made a significant impact in Germany, catching the attention of Madrid’s top executives, who see him as an ideal candidate to take over the role, as reported by Relevo. Interest in Alonso has intensified amid Real Madrid’s shaky start to the current La Liga season, particularly after a 4-0 loss to Barcelona, which widened the gap between the two rivals to six points and has increased scrutiny on Ancelotti’s position.

Alonso took charge of Leverkusen in 2022, and his first full season in 2023-24 was extraordinary. Under his leadership, Leverkusen broke Bayern Munich’s 11-year Bundesliga dominance and set a record 49-game unbeaten streak. This remarkable season saw them win both the league title and the German Cup while reaching the Europa League final.

According to Relevo, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is expected to offer Ancelotti an alternative role within the club after he steps down from coaching duties. Though details are still emerging, the 65-year-old Italian could potentially take on an ambassadorial or senior advisory role, allowing him to continue contributing to the club’s legacy. Ancelotti has a longstanding relationship with Real Madrid, having won 14 trophies across his two managerial stints.
