It has been confirmed that Brighton's Zadok Yohanna will not be available for the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
Zadok Yohanna could be a doubt for Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as the Brighton youngster continues to work his way back to full fitness.
Yohanna is currently focusing on improving his conditioning and strength in training after suffering what Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler described as a minor fitness problem.
The youngster had been involved with the first team earlier in the campaign, making substitute appearances during pre-season and against Aston Villa. He also featured in Brighton’s two UEFA Conference League matches against Tromsø.
However, his recent absence from the squad suggests Brighton are taking a cautious approach to his development and recovery. Academy player Miah Oriola has instead been named among the substitutes for the club’s last two Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Leeds United.
Yohanna is reportedly not expected to return to competitive action until Brighton face Sunderland following the international break.
That timeline could potentially affect his availability for Nigeria during the international window, particularly if the Super Eagles consider including him in their plans for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
Hürzeler explained that Brighton are unwilling to rush the youngster, pointing to the significant physical demands involved in adjusting to Premier League football.
According to the Brighton boss, Yohanna experienced a minor setback and requires time to adapt to the increased intensity of playing at the highest level in England.
The club's cautious approach means his recovery and fitness will likely determine whether he is available for international duty.
Nigeria will therefore have to monitor Yohanna’s situation ahead of the qualifiers, with Brighton expected to prioritise getting him fully prepared before returning him to competitive action.
