Three countries have seen their players dominate the team of the tournament (best XI), revelation by CAF at AFCON 2025.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the Best XI, also known as the team of the tournament for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following Senegal’s dramatic victory over Morocco in the final. Champions Senegal and hosts Morocco dominate the official Team of the Tournament, while three Nigerian stars secure their places after a thrilling month of football.
The squad is a who's who of African football talent, featuring a terrifying attack and a rock-solid defense comprised mostly of players from the tournament's top three teams.
The attack is headlined by the tournament's biggest performers. Senegal’s captain and Player of the Tournament, Sadio Mané, takes his place on the left. He is joined by Morocco’s Brahim Díaz, who claimed the Golden Boot with five goals, and Nigeria’s striking sensation Victor Osimhen, forming perhaps the most lethal forward line in international football right now.
Despite finishing with a bronze medal, Nigeria’s impressive performances were recognised with three spots in the final XI. Alongside Osimhen upfront, Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman was included for his creative spark and assists throughout the competition. At the back, Fulham’s Calvin Bassey was rewarded for his consistent, bruising displays in central defence.
Champions Senegal locked down the midfield positions. The experienced Idrissa Gana Gueye partners with final match-winner Pape Gueye to form a formidable defensive shield in the middle of the park.
Runners-up Morocco provided the defensive backbone. Yassine Bounou, who won the Best Goalkeeper award, starts between the sticks. He is protected by an all-Moroccan fullback pairing of PSG superstars Achraf Hakimi on the right and Noussair Mazraoui on the left. Senegal’s Moussa Niakhaté completes the central defensive partnership alongside Bassey.
