Before stepping into the spotlight as a recording artist, Adinu had already made his mark as a songwriter. Known professionally as Thenigpen, his pen has contributed to records for notable names in African music, including RU and Ayra Starr, co-writing Dangerous and Dance from Ayra Starr’s 2026 album Starrgirl.

Now, Adinu is stepping forward with a sound and story of his own.

Released via Madhouse Records, The Appetizer is a six-track EP that introduces listeners to the creative depth and versatility of The Shepherd. Drawing from personal experiences, heartfelt storytelling, and infectious rhythms, the project captures different dimensions of his artistry.

Tracks like Dear Father reveal a vulnerable and reflective side, while My Lane delivers a more confident, laid-back energy. Bonanza brings the celebratory spirit, and Is It Over further showcases Adinu’s willingness to explore beyond conventional genre boundaries.

A Law graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), Adinu approaches songwriting with an evident attention to structure, detail, and storytelling. His transition from crafting records behind the scenes to delivering his own material feels like a natural next chapter for an artist who understands the power of a well-written song.

Backed by Madhouse Records, an independent label operating between Nigeria and the United States, Adinu is positioning himself for a wider audience.

With The Appetizer, The Shepherd offers more than an introduction; he gives listeners a taste of an artistic journey that is only beginning.

The Appetizer by Adinu is available now on all major streaming platforms.
