“I dey my grind, I dey praise baba, he’s the holy father” heralds the riveting mood of this vibrant new single, Tatiana, from talented Afrobeat Afro-fusion singer and songwriter, Psylencc (pronounced as Silence).
Tatiana has a mid-tempo, groovy bass vibe soaked in mild percussion influenced with a punch that makes you want to dance. This song's rhythm and flow carry the listener along with Psylencc’s vigour and vibe. The lyrics combine raw, everyday Nigerian Pidgin English with nuanced metaphors to describe how he is a young hustler trying to succeed in his craft but can’t seem to get ‘Tatiana’ off his mind, which gives this piece its originality and flow.
Born in Anthony Village, Lagos, Odutola Christopher Temitope (professionally known as Psylencc) grew up listening to his father’s favourite playlist that consists of the creative works of American singer/songwriter, Michael Bolton, Senegalese-American singer, Akon, and Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, all of whom inspired Psylencc’s creativity.
He’s a natural poet, hence his artistic lyricism that chronicles his life journey - expressing good and bad memories. Aside from music, he’s also a fashion enthusiast, and his unique style is reflected in his music. He’s currently working on his EP, which is a journey of love and loneliness.
Sharing the inspiration behind this Weird Dreamz-produced piece, he said:
“A lot of young hustlers today are trying to make their dreams come true, trying to make a name for themselves, trying to truly succeed, but women seem to be the major distraction. I thought of using music to talk about this while also celebrating the value of hard work, focus, and optimism.
