Bitter Disappointment: Tanzanian Artists Go Unnoticed At The 2023 BET Awards
BET Awards has finally unveiled its 2023 nominations and while Nigeria has bagged various nominations, Tanzania has left empty-handed.
The 2023 BET Awards nominations have been announced with Drake leading the nomination list with 7 categories. In Africa, Nigerian overweights such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Ayra Starr and Tems represented the continent.
In East Africa and Tanzania, one of the most awaited categories was Best International Act whereas no artists from Tanzania or East Africa has bagged a nomination. East Africans and mainly artists from Tanzania are not strangers to the BET Awards. Diamond Platnumz has bagged 3 nominations, the last being in 2021.

Rayvanny won the award in 2017 for Best International Viewers Choice Awards Category while Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo also won at the BET Awards in 2016.
The 2023 BET nominations come at a time when there is an ongoing discussion in Tanzania where some music critics seem to point out that the pace and speed of Bongo Fleva music in the international market seem to be slow.
