The new season of Coke Studio Africa premiered this past weekend across Africa. In East Africa, the first episode was more of Valentine's special featuring performances from Nandy and Skales pairing, Naiboi and Harmonize. Tanzanian Bongo Flava princess Nandy joined Naija Afrobeats heavy hitter Skales in the studio, from the get-go it was obvious they got along,
Anticipation before being introduced was high, after all, both are fans of each other’s work, and after having previously created the “Fire Waist” smash hit with Nandy’s homeboy Harmonize, Skales was keen to collabo with another East African.
Nandy performed a stellar cover of Skales' song "Shake Body" with Skales covering her mega-hit "Ninogeshe". The two would then work on an original love smash "Baby Me" - about an East-West kind of love. The song was produced by acclaimed Nigerian producer GospelOnDeBeatz.
It’s normal that two artists combining on a track need to meet up beforehand to establish inspiration and ways of working before stepping into the recording booth together, but it’s certainly not normal that a duo thrown together on Coke Studio Africa both describe this meet up as a date! It was an uncommonly good vibe indeed. The two went out on a date in the cultural exchange segment of the show and got to know more about each other
