#TheList Season is back for the 4th consecutive year!
Back in 2013, notjustOk.com kickstarted a “Top 10” trend which was eventually nicknamed “The List” by artists, fans, OAPs and Nigerian music listeners in general. The different lists compiled by the notjustOk Team – particularly the “Most Gifted Rappers” list – caused a stir across the industry and it was certainly an exciting period for artists and fans alike. For that reason, we decided to make it a yearly thing.
We’re fully into the final quarter of 2016, and in the last 12-15 months, we’ve witnessed the growth of several superstars with hit songs, tours, endorsements and more.
The 10 Hottest Artists in Nigeria 2016 list takes into account the hottest names in Nigerian music from the tail-end of 2015 till date. For the rest of the week, we’ll systematically reveal all 10 names on #TheList2016.

9. Reekado Banks
Some call him ReekySTANDARD, some call him ReekyTOMTOM; whatever you call him, one thing's for sure: this young man makes Gbedu Wey Dey Burst Brain!
Reekado Banks debuts on #TheList at #9! The Mavin Records hotshot has been bubbling under the radar since he got activated back in 2014. Fast-forward 2 years, he's now one of the highest rated new school acts in the industry.
Reekado Banks started 2016 by grabbing the highly coveted "Next Rated" Award at the Headies, beating off stiff competition from Lil Kesh, Kiss Daniel, Cynthia Morgan and Korede Bello in the process. We all know about the controversy that followed the perceived upset, but we're not here for that right now. Suddenly, the spotlight was on Reekado; he had to deliver, and that's exactly what he did later in January with the hit song "Oluwa Ni". "Oluwa Ni" went on to dominate the airwaves, topping PlayData charts for several weeks between February and May 2016 (albeit on and off).
Reekado Banks has put out quite a few singles since then, including the opinion-splitting "Spotlight" debut album.
The kid is definitely one for the present and the future.
