Manchester United Football Club have reportedly made a decision on the future of Erik Ten Hag going into the 2024/25 football season.

There have been speculations on the future of Erik Ten Hag following a disappointing season for Manchester United in the Premier League. The Red Devils finished eighth place with a negative goal difference, the worst in the history of the club in the league.

Why did Manchester United decide to keep Erik Ten Hag?

The 54-year-old was able to lead the Red Devils to an FA Cup victory over Manchester City which automatically puts them in the Europa League next season. There are also reports that the board also took into consideration that the injury crisis the club suffered last season. It was reported that they feel this one of the reasons why the club suffered in the league and the lack of a perfect replacement, if the Dutchman was sacked.

The Telegraph confirmed the news on its official website on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. According to reports from the club, the board decided to keep Ten Hag after the season was reviewed across all competitions.

Who were the possible managers that could have replaced Erik Ten Hag?

The board at Manchester United were reportedly looking at former Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi, recently departed Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, Brentford head coach Thomas Frank and Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna all the possible potential to take over the job at Old Trafford.

However, at the end of a process led by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford, the choice was made to go forward with Ten Hag going into the next season.

What is next for Ten Hag at Manchester United?

The board are set to open a conversation with Ten Hag over a contract extension because he has only one year left on his current deal.

Ten Hag won two trophies in the first two years of his first two years at Old Trafford, the supporters of the club will hope the 2024/25 season will be better than the previous season (2023/24).
