Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Edin Terzic leaves his position as the club's head coach by mutual consent despite having an amazing 2023/24 season.

The 41-year-old decided to leave Borussia Dortmund with immediate effect after leading the German side to the final of the Champions League, where they lost out to Real Madrid. Edin Terzic's current contract was due to expire next summer ( 2024/25), but he will now leave the club with immediate effect after both parties decided that they could not go further in their relationship.

The reports from Germany confirmed that Terdic asked that Borussia Dortmund terminate his contract after he felt that someone else led the club going into the 2024/25 season.

What did Terdic say on his decision to leave Dortmund?

"Dear Borussians, even though it pains me greatly right now, I want to inform you that as of today, I will be leaving BVB. It was a tremendous honour to lead this great club to a DFB-Pokal victory and recently to a Champions League final. After our final in Wembley, I asked the management for a conversation because, after ten years at BVB, including five years in the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I feel that the upcoming restart should be led by a new person."

Dortmund's season was filled with mixed emotions fo the fans as they finished fifth in the league and got knocked out of the German Cup in the early stages. Terzic came close to losing his job twice, the first waa before the winter break.

However, the club will remember him for leading them to the DFB Cup in 2021 and losing the league on the final day to Bayern Munich in 2023 and the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2024.
