VIDEO: Wale discusses D'banj & Don Jazzy, Wizkid, Ice Prince & Olamide

International US rapper, Wale had a chat with MTV Base VJ, Ehiz during his visit to Nigeria last month.

The rapper spent a few days hanging out with Nigerian superstars including Dbanj, Don Jazzy, Davido, Olamide and many others.

And he sat down with celebrated MTV VJ Ehiz to talk about his relationship with his family, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Olamide, the lingering Dbanj and Don Jazzy feud and how he brought the pair together in one surprise-filled night.

I think the Yoruba language is Olamide's selling point and he should not be pressured to rap in English. I once met an Italian who begged me to give him Fela's ITT CD even though he does not understand English language let alone pidgin English. Music is a universal language. I enjoy Phyno and Olamide's music even though I don't understand either Igbo or Yoruba. These guys are original and should be accepted that way.

You're very spot on and I agree with all you've said. However, I also agree with Wale. I think Olamide can definitely make an album (even if it's just an 8-tracker) in English language and that does not mean he's crossing over or "selling out", not at all. Rather, it would make even more people realize how good he is. And who knows where that might catapult him to? Olamide is really, really good. Thats your opinion! For me I think it will be a good thing if he can be doing the rapp both in English and Yoruba.

Well said, if Olamide knows his craft like i think he does then he should stick to what works for him and not let anyone tell him how to do what he knows best. I see no reason why he should do an album in english?! He could mix both english and Yoruba but not drastically switch his style up because he's trying to appeal to certain demographics. Artists like Fela and even King Sunny Ade shine and are globally recognised while they remained true to their craft and style. Look at reggae artists that pierce into the american market… Read more »
