VIDEO: D'banj Interview on Sahara TV (Discusses GEJ Interview, Fuel Subsidy and NewYork Concert)

On February 18th, Chika Oduah of Sahara reporters interviewed D'banj via Skype and asked him a lot of questions. They touched on a lot of topics that many of us would like to hear D'banj's take on. Listen to his answers to the interview questions and please share your thoughts.

I think one or two questions were uncalled for though. How is the man supposed to know why majority of the people in Nigeria are poor.

Anyway, if you are in the New York or tri-state area, try and be at the concert @ Irving Plaza today and let us know how it went.

The interview with D'banj stops at the 24:51 minute mark.

No hating, but he shldnt have granted this interview knowing fully well he will have no answers to questions that will obviously be asked. He should be glad its not Sowore that interviewed him, himself.. We off this ish so I wouldnt wanna comment on how disappointed I feel about his lack of passion for the country and youths he claimed to represent .. even a Don Jazzy was more remorseful .. God bless you in your endeavors but then dont blame Dbanj cos obviously Nigerians are too sentimental to lash out at anyone they like . Same way he… Read more »

Yes D'banj is no politician but he can at least give one or two reasonable answers to those questions. U no like cold, who come like cold? We all here for a reason and for you to say that u couldn't come out bcos of the cold weather is disappointing. Sm people left their pay per hour jobs to participate man, another excuse would have been better.

THE FACTS: Good Music didn't let Dbanj take part in the subsidy protest. He's now part of a prestigious label and has to be extra careful about his image. In that case, Kanye should have paid for a publicist to help Dbanj handle the criticisms. Dbanj is lose cannon, creating more mess everytime he opens his mouth on this issue. Call the professionals joor.

That is d flimsy excuse for not standing up for ur people even in London,d people who made u.
Dbanj is clueless and dumb. It's actally nice to see how self_centred and selfish dbanj could be.He feels kanye is god and now dat he is signed his music could make it anwhere not knowing dat we Nigerians are d ones and without we he cant make any sale.Dbanj and donjazzy feels dey own 9ja music and dey are number one.
Can we please have a minute of silence for d banj’s stupidity. Hahahaha. Ignorant guy

For someone having his debut Concert in the United States, This interview is highly uncalled for.
Alternatively, he should have briefed to be of people's interest other than act so ignorant 'bout the subsidy protests

Ass kisser!!! The fact remains that D'banj needs go back to school more than Wizkid does need it... He is just good at messing shows and interviews, he needs help. He is not more successful than our humble 2baba and will never be forget the GoodMusic Endorsement Don Jazzy is obviously the brain behind it due to his skills on producing good beats, of course everyone knows this but if you doubt it, let's us all wait and see his contributions. I don't think any of you here is aware of his show in Malaysia, it was a total mess.… Read more »

It's so crazy how ppl come on here and spew a lot of gibberish, in the name of being real. Asking an entertainer questions, most politicians are finding hard to explain, and then getting mad that he can't answer them is beyond silly. The relevance of D'banj in my life is nothing more than an entertainer. Just like 2face or Celine Dion is. I don't need D'banj for Financial, Economic or Religious advise. There are professionals for those fields, i'll call D'banj for an interview when i have questions on Naija music and it's affairs. Now don't get me wrong,… Read more »

...cont'd D'banj supported Goodluck, which is within his rights. That doesn't mean he supports or should support, every action he makes in office. It just means, of the candidates available, Goodluck is the person D'banj prefers, and so did a lot of ppl. So keep Goodluck acountable for what Goodluck does, and not D'banj and the million of others that voted for him. Even here in the states, not all Obama supporters agree with every action Obama makes, but the supporters don't get chastised for it. This is so counter-productive. We plead for everyone to come out and vote, we… Read more »

This subject of this interview is very wrongly timed. I wonder who authorized this interview because it just spoils the mood 4 Dbanj whom I agree was expecting to be interviewed about his preparation of his big concert today.
That bitch just think its easy psychologically to prepare for such a big concert.
Use your brain sometimes my people.

I think the people expect too much from D'banj, he isn't LupeFiasco or Mode9 or SoundSultan. Never has he been intellectual with his songs – why would he start now (if at all he can be). Yes, i agree he has a social obligation, and that is to make us good music with relevance AND positivity (i give him an A so far). If this is to ridicule a man that has made ONE mistake by advocating Jonathan, it is a cheap shot and i say we divert harshness to the people who deserve it - the LEADERS OF OUR… Read more »

This guy called D'Banj is obviously a fool.Did he expect SaharaReporters not to ask him politics-related questions?...Now he thinks he's on top of the world.I'm waiting for the rubbish he would bring out under GOOD MUSIC.Let him be told that the fact that Kanye got him signed under his label doesn't make him succeed in the US.There are some American artistes under GOOD MUSIC that are virtually unknown to most Americans.Get that into your thick skull, dumb ass!

@XcessP

NotJustOk she did not ask him why majority of the people in Nigeria are poor. She asked for his thoughts on how there is an increase in the level of poverty in the country. She basically was asking him how he feels about the epidemic. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. She handled the interview professionally and he on the other hand, only showed to us the self centered and egotistical part of him.

I wish Dbanj had stopped the interview earlier...anyway Dbanj keep doing what you know best. i will just advise you to work on your interview response-skills and at this stage of your career, you need a publicist. pls be more careful with enemies of progress in order to avoid unnecessary hatred from your real fans!

the problem here is why do we expect pop stars to be championing various policies/causes? ask him about the music, that is the only thing he should be telling us about since that's why we care about him...we didn't elect him to be president now abi?
