"My Great-grandfather was the First Artiste Recorded in West Africa"- Seun Kuti
Son of late afrobeat legend and afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has in an interview with media personality, Nancy Isime, opened up about the musical background of his family on a TV show with the presenter.

On the eponymous show called the Nancy Isime show, Seun Kuti revealed that other than his father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, his grandfather, Isreal Oladotun Ransome-Kuti, who was a clergyman was also a recording artiste and composer. Seun Kuti then went further to drop an interesting fact saying “I think my great-grandfather was the first artiste to be recorded in West Africa.”

He further explained that his lineage of recording artistes had prior to his late father, all done gospel music with his selfsame great-grandfather, Josiah Ransome-Kuti being the composer of the famous Anglican Yoruba hymn “Ise Oluwa, ko le baje o.”
