—Navio [KIGOZI (I Tell You Why)]
Yes, I just had to quote the opening bars so that I give you a quick preview of the track. KIGOZI is a single off Navio’s 3rd studio album ‘PRIDE’ that came out last year. This track also opened the album for those of you who listened to it and as you listen to it you get to know why . The track is named after Navio (his real name KIGOZI) which explains the honesty in the lyrics on this track and in away represents Navio’s legacy in the hip-hop industry back home here in Uganda and across the African continent.
On an Aethan produced beat Navio ignores the chorus and uses a simple plain hook where he says if a girl ever leaves him its cause of his PRIDE & then he goes on to tell you why with in the verses. Within the hook you realize the consistency of Navio as he drops the name of the album ‘PRIDE’ which made this particular song a perfect way of opening his album. In the first verse Navio brings the aggressiveness as a battle MC to his competition as he addresses them as to why he is the best and is unapologetic about it. In the next verses Navio talks about the struggles that hip-hop as a genre and rappers face in order to be appreciated/accepted like not being allowed to perform on shows, which highlights his legacy as one of the rappers who have paved way for the most rappers in Uganda.
