ONGEA! - The Eastern African Music Summit is Back
The second edition of Eastern Africa's biggest Music Summit - ONGEA! is going down this Thursday, 16th February to Sunday, 19th February ,2017 from 12:00 p.m to 10:00 p.m. daily at the Sarit Centre Expo Hall in Westlands - Nairobi. Hosted by PHAT! Music & Entertainment Limited, the event is an annual Corporate Social Investment initiative to help develop a music Industry in Eastern Africa that is professional, transparent and profitable for all.
Visitors will be able to meet Industry professionals, at the fifty-seven (57) Trade Exhibition stands, over the four days. This includes Artists, Associations, Bands, Booking Agents, Collective Management Organisations, Digital Distributors, Educational Institutions, Media Houses, Record Labels, Regulators, Technical Suppliers & more, drawn from Cameroon, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
The real business-to-business deals will be struck in the Networking Lounge, courtesy of Extra Dimensions. The summit also includes Studio Transparent, run by PHAT! Intellectual Property, where anyone can record their Demo, with Artville Music, for Free!
From 12.30pm to 2.00pm Daily, there will be Open Mic for upcoming Musicians; with Auditions for Sauti Academy taking place on Saturday and Sunday, where two (2) fully paid 1-year Scholarships are up for grabs.
This will be followed by two (2) Industry panels per day, at 2.30pm-4.00pm and 4.00pm-5.30pm, where the Thought Leaders of the Eastern Africa Music Industry shall discuss Broadcast, Digital Distribution, Festival Bookings, Live Sound, Monetising Compositions, Music & Culture, Music Education, and Rights Compliance.
There shall be showcase performances each night (6.00pm-10.00pm) , by a total of twenty-nine (29) artists during the summit with musicians from Cameroon, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda; all supported by a world-class Stage from Protel Studios, crisp Sound by MOB Entertainment & Artville Music and seamless Flow by PHAT! Productions.
All the showcase performances shall be keenly observed by Festival Bookers from Mozambique (Jess White of AKUM Agency, AZGO festival and IGODA festival circuit: https://au.linkedin.com/
Additional features this year at ONGEA!, include the hosting of the 3rd Mdundo Awards, on Thursday 16th February (6.00pm-7.30pm); as well as a World Record attempt to record the longest song with the most artists, by Mdundo and Artville Music, in Studio Transparent with PHAT! Intellectual Property.
ONGEA! was born out of the annual KENYA MUSIC WEEK, which ran every December for 10 Years, from 2004 to 2013. Since KENYA MUSIC WEEK had achieved its Objectives for the Kenya Music Industry, the scope was broadened to the Eastern Africa region, whereby, the three pillars still remain: Trade, Learn and Showcase.
