Most of us got to know Shekhinah after her collaborative efforts with Sketchy Bongo for the hit single “Let You Know” and her feature with Kyle Deutsch “Back to the Beach” but Shekhinah’s story goes all the way back to when she landed her first major gig competing in South Africa’s seventh Season of the hit televi-sion show, IDOLS, where she made Top 32. After getting kicked off the competition, Shekhinah proceeded to enter the competition in its 8th season where she landed in the Top 6 of the overall competition. However at the center of her work there’s consistency as we continue seeing her efforts on tracks such as “Your Eyes”a Black Coffee single, a Jesse Clegg single titled “Breathing” and the latest with DJ Slique called “On it”.
As the Durban born Pop/R&B vocalist and songwriter continues to curve her way out of the South African industry and making her name a continental household brand, she featured on the upcoming Coke Studio Africa season that is set to premiere in different regions from September this year and will broadcast in more than 30 countries across Africa. With production from Africa’s hottest music producers: Masterkraft (Nigeria) and DJ Maphorisa (South Africa) Shekhinah will join other artists in working with the Mega Platinum star, singer, songwriter and dancer Jason Derulo who will be the show’s guest star this year on a special episode themed the ‘Global Fusion Edition’.
“I have worked with a lot of great artistes and I’ve been exposed to great artists but nothing like Coke Studio Africa” said Shekhinah. “Every day I am getting a step closer to where I want to be and I am learning more about myself as an artist. I never expected to get the call and all the artists have been amazing, it’s surreal and would like to thank all the team behind this.” added Shekhinah.
This year, Coke Studio has merged Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa into one—bigger and better, Coke Studio Africa – 2017, will feature 11 talented African Stars.
