M.I – CHAIRMAN (Prod by e-Kelly)

Post by Ovie O, March 19th, 2013

You’ve felt the hype, you’ve experienced the buzz, now it’s time to hear the music. Here’s M.I’s official first single for the year 2013 titled “CHAIRMAN”.

“The countdown to the new album has already begun. Look out for the “Chairman” video dropping in a matter of weeks (or months… or years… in M.I Calendar)

In his usual spectacular fashion, Chocolate City Vice President for Music and Loopy Music CEO, M.I Abaga re-affirmed his position at the top of African entertainment with an historic worldwide premiere of his first single off his upcoming album titled Chairman. The Hit-maker in partnership with Google engineered a historic live Hangout which was broadcast live on the Google + and Youtube platform.

“It has been a while,” MI said. “I have taken these three years to build up a solid corporate base and contribute to Chocolate City as Vice President. It has all been worth it. I thank all my incredible fans for their unwavering support for the music!” It is time for the CHAIRMAN, He added.

Also joining the historic Hangout was Cool FM, Top Radio, Citi FM Ghana. It also featured stellar appearances by Miss World 2001 Agbani Darego, Loopy Music’s Ruby and fans. The live Hangout was hosted by Nigerian pop-soul siren Waje. The hangout was followed live by an approximate 1 million fans online and 10 million over the Radio portals. It was streamed live online with the support of blogs and websites.

M.I’s album also titled ‘Chairman’ is due out in JUNE 2013.”

Not one to hate MI's hustle. Am actually a big fan. This rap or better still song doesn't meet its hype. Maybe he has lost his sheen. This is simply YAWN. 3/10

  6. PICHI says:

  7. Daniel Bobinho Daninho says:

I feel so honored to be the first comment. All of my hardwork and dedication has paid off. Getting the top comment has been a dream of mine for many years, and I would like to thank those who have helped me along the way. First and foremost I would like to thank god for giving me this opportunity. Next I would like to thank my parents. I want to thank my dog Nelson, for always there for me. I would also like to thank my pet tadpole for surviving against all odds for over a week. Next I would like to thank the squirrel that lives in my backyard for climbing trees because that gives me inspiration that I need to get through the day. I also want to thank Michael Forsahw for giving me someone to beat in Mario Party. This is a special moment in my life and I would like to thank any of my unmentioned friends and family that have helped me along the way. This moment will be a moment that I will never forget. I just remembered a few other people I would like to thank; facebook, the fish I caught in the third grade, my light in my room bc I wouldn’t be able to see the keyboard without it, the internet for letting me go on facebook, and Then come to NOTJUSTOK, my house because without it I would be homeless, and last but not least I would like to thank all the people out there that actually took time out of their day to read this. I cannot stress how much of a big deal to me this is. I have been trying to be the first comment on a post for years, but that has not been possible until this amazing day. Hopefully my good luck will continue, but this is undoubtedly a rare occasion. If you asked me how I did this, I would say, you can achieve anything u set your mind on. To all the kids out there reading this, I would like to tell them to follow their dreams. Being the top comment is amazing, thank you everyone.

  16. With that kinda hype was expecting something wayy better than this!

  17. SolitudeDaChosen says:

Hhhhmm… I echo the sentiments that it's a party track.. However, it's not the same M.I effort from Illegal Music mixtapes honestly. It's an okay track but I expected a little more for a really hyped lead single off a much awaited album. I'm still a veteran fan, however this track is average.

  18. BIG MOUTH says:

Argg… i wish M.I din't drop this today!! that d'banj & Kanye spinet is taking people's attention from a very good song!!! Anyway the sky is big enough for err body!!

  23. Rixon says:

Expected more from the Chairman.,..Not feeling this

  24. Man 2 Man says:

  33. El Savador says:

This song no reach wetin we expect. Simple!!! M.I's flow is getting stale jare.

  34. somzie says:

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one dat thinks MI is getting boring. I mean, its one thing to bea good rapper, and its another thing to make a good song.

All your songs can't be all about ME ME ME. naija no one hear dat. switch now now o!

  35. RuggedFury says:

Beats nice but at this…. Sarkodie still #1

  36. meli says:

  37. Troy Adewale says:

I am a super big fan of M.I and couldn't wait for this much hyped Chairman track. However, I had this track on replay this entire afternoon thinking somehow, just somehow, I may start digging to this song but I must confess – I ain't feeling sh*t yet.
I won't be quick to dismiss this track as being mediocre cos maybe I may start feeling it more when I listen to it tomorrow. But as for now- MI, I ain't feeling this one!!

  38. wonderkid says:

man this is crap from africa's no1 rapper… no 2ways about it!! i think he's d one needing real food, nigga has gotten really comfortable…

  39. Abiodun Zuchinny says:

I guess all these naija musicians are forgetting the atmosphere is becoming unconducive who their mediocre songs and senses. PAST GLORY NO DEY DO AM AGAIN. EFUUNEFUUUUUU PHYNO'S VOICE. Come out when you have played your songs to friends who will understand tell you when they are tired of it , if they get tired before the 10th repeat thrash the demo. YOU NEED TO WORK HARD TO BE A CHAIRMAN…… Hype no dey grease ear good music does.

  40. Somto says:

Very sharp chorus, whack first verse, ok second verse and dry 3rd verse. MI sit up!

This song is weak… Its not a club banger and its not lyrically potent… #AndIHaveEatenToday

  42. james says:

really not feeling this song boss

  43. theLASTMAN Ψ ︻╦╤─ says:

this track is punchline wanting, expected more from the M.I…bad choice for a single at a time like this. It would have sounded better if released with phat tracks as the album. Still optimistic.

  44. Innerscope says:

Mi, MI, MI ……………………. u de learn work, sit up man

  45. Emmanuel Jaitto-Jeffrey says:

  46. wizzy says:

    dead song

  47. Madu B says:

With this track, M.I has just confirmed the take over of the number one position in Africa by Sarkodie. Well, in Nigeria you may still be seen as number one but why did you allow a Ghanian (Sarkodie) to be leading in Africa? Ehh M.I?

  48. zunnybunny says:

Akpata is way better than this… even though the mixing was horrible. Still a fan anyway.

  49. Johnny Drama says:

Lets be honest guys this is crap! First its undisputed, then its Africa rapper number 1, now Chairman? I think MI should redirect his energy into his music rather than trying to inflate his ego…u never reach Chairman level bros. 2/10…..and yes I have eaten well

  50. paulmirabilis says:

The song is okay but I expected much more from MI,moreso because of the way he hyped it…i rate it 6/10

  51. ope says:

    MI… what's this… chairman for JOS abi…. u better do something serious… ur fan still…

  52. terah says:

    common dude!

  53. Dude says:

Dude is beginning to believe the hype and seems to have started putting less work into his craft. I hope he is not derailing like Ice Prince. Ice was always questionable in terms of rap talent but M.I is way too good for this descent so soon.

  54. tags says:

A peculiar lie most dudes tell themselves is "i can take that guy". Reality check – the dude with more practice develops more skill and often has the upper hand in a stand-off. Sometimes a hiatus does more harm than good. The hype for this chairman track got me psyched for it's release but it sure doesn't cut it. Still an MI fan though

  55. NaLaugh says:

Africa rapper number 1. M.I microphone magician.

But, this magic no too gel like that bros.

  57. daniel d prince says:

leave the song on repeat its addictive . the beat tho

  58. Senator says:

Best wrapper as it stands in Africa, give it up to the one and only VECTOR

  59. Reptyle says:

This track is JUST OK! Nothing special given MI's antecedents. This is definitely not the kind of song you release to promote an album from an artiste of MI's calibre. Dude needs to get with the program or risk slipping into irrelevance.

  60. Tapiya says:

people saying MI is feasting on past glory should remember he dropped Akpata, and for Akpata though noisy is one of the best songs out there, some of us understand he didn't get it well in Chairman, but you cant deny the feel of those beats in the song, so therefore i advice y'all not to throwaway the bathing water along with the child.

  61. malina says:

MI is a gud rapper but he needs to work on is potential dnt relent dude stick wif ur game i believe u still gath many to give out to ur work hard and surprise ur homies G.good ideal but nija needs clubbing and banging song

  62. njo observer says:

let's wait for d album..he has his hit in his album. It's a strategy

  63. Hangout says:

I bet all those saying Sarkodie is number one have not bought his album and probably never listened to the album… I have not listened to it but I know Sarkodie does not have a project that's better than any of the projects M.I has put out there… You guys need to quit this bullshit about comparing and M.I that has achieved and a Sarkodie that's yet to put out a strong project… If Sarkodie had a project as strong as the hype, I would have bought and listened. That said, this is not a bad song but we all know M.I will not release an album that's; below average… No rapper has ever released 2 or 3 straight classic albums… So y'all should quit talking shit wait for an album to drop…

  64. Truth talker says:

LOL you people on here are hilarious. Sarkodie is not #1 or #2. I would even say that he is not #3 either but they'll kill me. What is Sarkodie's biggest song? Where did it get to? That BET award means nothing. The cyphers also mean nothing. He's just a good rapper but for you to say he's #1? Nah!!!! He's just a hot rapper right now. Only Ghanaians feel that he is #1 and that isn't surprising.

  65. Oga chairman……M.I ali.

  66. DWISI says:

Excellent sound perfection, average enjoyment rap from M.I ( as usual he’s teasing us, we all know this is just trailer), the hook for me is the smoothies, and with 32X replay, I’ve come to love the song. All the best to your competitors cos you stand as the competition itself.

  67. Max Chy Egwuatu says:

too bad I heard the beat….AND AM STIL BREATHING *raising eyebrow8 anyway sha, typical M.I good flow, but notin new boss! no beef!

  68. COdE6 says:

truth be told, the best rapper in the game now is VECTOR, put sentiments away.

  69. feyishope says:

Vector? Check his latest releases too. Wack. Sarkodie? His Ghanaian flavour is deceiving y'all. Modo is still the boss. I got love for the remaining Choc boys though.

  70. Mr Man says:

    Best= SINZU!

  71. Pk Bertram says:

man where was that baseline towards the end…that sound was classic

  72. dnova says:

M.I played around with the beat, as he always does, and his lyrical prowess is never in doubt. He is still boss, you all know that.

  73. Johannes says:

if am not lying, "UNDISPUTED'" was his official single off MI2! and I see some similarities between Undisputed and Chairman, same concept and similar 'simple but enyoyable beat.' Now we all know MI2 is a classic. Advice to u all therefore is to sit back and wait for another classic album comin straight from the oven. Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to 2013, the year of the CHAIRMAN!!!!!!!

  74. Sapilo says:

    M.i’s d best.

  75. folasanwo says:

If MI raps hardcore, he's not targetting the Nigerian market… now he does #Chairman with the Nigerian sounding factor (Not sounding like Lil wayne as people said he did on illegal music 1 & 2)…

Nice song… all of us go rush your album when e comot!

Guys, have you eaten today? Then why are you hating? (By the way, its not a wack line, its a rhetoric question – if you've eaten, no need to hate…. If you haven't, think about eating first 🙂

  76. lark says:

this is more of fake hype…this is sincerely below average!…where're are the lines that rap is known for?…well below chairman's level!

  77. God.rap is dead in Nigeria….its over…if you be rapper na just you and God….take it or leave…chai.

  78. Am a ChairmAn, caLL mE DabLiZ aLLi…#mItcheeWWW!

Took some time to go through a lot of junk here and i realized one thing; people who don’t know diddlysquat generally can’t resist flaunting their ignorance about art and its appreciation. No one who know’s their onions will use words like ‘average’, ‘below average’, ‘whack’ etc to describe this track. May not be MI’s best effort but its definitely top notch. Chairman, e be like say dem never eat o! Anyways, they’ll have their words to eat when the time comes…
