Tiwa Savage Grammy Nomination

Post by Demola OG, February 12th, 2011

For some who may not know, Tiwa Savage who is also a professional writer signed to Sony/ATV publishing co-wrote a popular track called Collard greens and Cornbread off Fantasia’s Back 2 Me album which has been nominated for a Grammy in the best R&B album category.

So in preparation for the Grammys which will be held on Sunday, the 13th of February, here is a leak of the original song, Collard greens and Cornbread performed by Tiwa and a video of the album version by Fantasia. You guys should listen to both and share your thoughts on who delivered a better performance. Either way the album received a grammy nod and both artistes benefit.

Congratulations to Nigeria’s Own Tiwa Savage on the Grammy Nomination!!! Let us all pray that she bags the award.

  6. adeboy says:

..Tiwa no Offence but this Grammy nomination no be ya own cos you wrote the 1 song out of a 13-14 track album no mean say u dey collect the award ..Watin make the producer come talk??

  7. awizii says:

i think people are missing something here.Tiwa Sawage is a good songwriter no doubt, but the nomination was in the category of Best R&B album. So before people start saying i'm hating, the award, should Fantasia win it,will be for Fantasia..it's not a songwriter's nomination.period.But i'm happy she co-wrote the song.

  8. dimjoe says:

Guys sharaaap…..As a co- writer to a song, if it gets any nomination or winning award for a particular song or album which includes the song, the writers and producers practically are involved in the process which makes them a winner tooo……….Una just be ODOLOS

  9. 'Resa says:

Yes, she co-wrote a song on an album that was nominated. However, the individual song she wrote was not nominated for an award in itself. Therefore, to call her a “nominee” is misleading. We should celebrate her as part of the TEAM that contributed to Fantasia being nominated BUT Tiwa herself, was not nominated. Otherwise, any/everybody that contributed to the album is a “grammy nominee”…that’s not how it works. She needs to get off that “nominee horse”. But I congratulate her team on their hardwork for getting Fantasia’s album nominated.

  10. abegi!!! says:

this is Just BS.. TIWA is so silly thats all i will say… by her tweets u wud think it was her that got nominated for a grammy.. pls when they read out the albums on the day of the awards, is it tiwa;s name r fantasia's name they wud call.. its ok to be proud of being a part of a nominated album but Tiwa its not ur album.. and u co wrote the song.. not that u wrote the song 00 per cent so i wonder y she is making a big deal out of someone elses work… mschew..

  11. nikO says:

guys this is so untrue! you know how many people come here to get info on naija music. you should at least confirm from the website before posting, na wa for u o!

  12. Blake says:

NJO, U guys messed up on this one!!. Tiwa is nowhere near nomination, not even for the song she co-wrote with Fantasia. Here is a rundown of Fantasia's 2011 Grammy nomination:

    *Best Female R&B Vocal Performance
    Back To Me
    Fantasia
    [J Records / 19 Recordings LLC / S Records]

    *Best R&B Song
    Bittersweet
    Fantasia
    Track from: Back To Me
    [J Records / 19 Recordings LLC / S Records]

    *Best R&B Album
    Back To Me
    Fantasia
    [J Records / 19 Recordings LLC / S Records]

NJO, u guys are reputable, try verifying and confirming your info before publishing them. Stuffs like this isn't good for your blog. ~Cheers….

  14. Osahon O says:

All the same, weather Tiwa was nominated or not she tried 4 contributing to the Album that was Nominated…She can claim been nominated but she should get over it cos she was all up on twitter saying too much sh*t about it instead of her to go work hard on her Album…NJO Keep It Up.

  15. beegee says:

all these mumu's wey dey yaern bad belle yern. Read well before you come here dey yern okpata….. Naija peep's and their negative expectations sef. So because she be from Naija mean sey she no go fit do am….. common be optimistic. The top is for EVERYONE wey fit dare, not for some select few… wait and see what the future hold, i bet some of you mofos wey dey do bad belle would bee displaced… mtcheeeeeew!

  16. This is just a problem of technicality o. NJO got too excited and made a misleading statement about something that is technically true.

  17. Riva says:

It is a shame that people are so desperate not to give this girl her due that they don't even read the Grammy rules.
If an ALBUM is nominated EVERYONE that worked on that ALBUM is nominated. Songwriters, producers, background singers, instrumentalist, engineers……EVERYBODY.
So even though the album did not win Tiwa Savage is and will always be a Grammy Nominee

  18. MsCollette says:

Some Nigerians can be so gullible, it’s frustrating!

Most of the writers on that song are heavyweights, and she was part of a writing team of 5 people. To be honest with you, it was a bit misleading to go round saying that she was a ‘Grammy nominee’

She is employed bt Sony, so, whatever she writes, becomes the property of her employees, this is why she is paid and is therefore not authorised to claim ownership. So, even if the song had independently won a grammy, a gong would have gone to Fantasia and Sony. It would have been a whole different story, if it were in a songwriters’ category!

I, honestly, think this whole thing was unnecessary, she could have gained a lot more (honest) hype by just saying she co-wrote a song on Fantasia’s album! Nigerians are so trusting as they once were and expect the worst (think Smiley). Tiwa has done her image more harm than good!

All of you saying stuff about others hating, this is not the case. Tiwa is not the first songwriter. Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo, The Dream etc are powerhouses when it comes to songwriting, and they have penned HIT songs that have been nominated for grammys (the SONGS oh, not one song out of an ALBUM) and have never claimed to be nominated (even though they were in the public eye) why should it start now!?

It will happen one day for Nigeria, there is NO need for premature claims! I think NJO should have researched their stuff, and not posted anything for the sake of credibility, as opposed to being friends with Tiwa Savage!

  19. Ola says:

Going by your arguments, Dr Dre or Neyo would have had loads of awards in their cabinets. Dr Dre never got best album award for Doggy Style but he got an award as d producer of same album. Snoop Dogg got the award for best rap album and Dr Dre will not come out and say its my award NO. No point coming here to argue, this is meant to be an educative forum and we all can learn even in sitations like this including NJO. Im sure they must have realized their mistake here.

  20. oladipo says:

whoa this is funny.. naija folks give props where props is due ms collette you wrote a long paragraph trying to explain to us that because she cowrote the song she has no right to claim the nomination? of course she got paid she and fantasia and other co writers, yes its a property of sony records of whomever is the parent record company. the rest of your article is utter rubbish and you are misled about how the nomination goes she will not take the grammy home but when the song is listed on the grammy site they put all the infomation about the song ….. sang by fantasia and co written by tiwa savage. just as how its is written behind CD cases….. so get it rite.. congrats to tiwa savage even if the song no win we recognize her efforts and her version is better than fantasia"s END OF STORY

  21. oladipo says:

NO JUST OKAY WHY DONT YOU GUYS PUBLISH MY COMMENTS ????

  22. oladipo says:

this is totaly unfair whatever happend to free speech? every time i post a comment on this webstite it is never published,,,, why is that?

  23. oladipo says:

please post my reply i am not rewriting the whole blog again

  24. MsCollette says:

An accolade is NOT a Grammy, appreciation, is NOT a Grammy. This is why they have the songwriters’ category. If you don’t win in the songwriters’ category, you don’t win, period. I’ve looked through the Grammy website. If that were the case, the purpose of a Grammy would be cheapened, and anyone can get one as there are sometimes up to 60 people that contribute to an album.

I bow for you people oh, false exhaltation! She gets all the props for writing a song, but, whatever award comes is not hers. That’s another technicality for you.

  25. MsCollette says:

Oh, and by the way, the song was not handpicked and nominated, the whole album was! I’m guessing the producers, other songwriters, sound engineers, composers, illustrators, people that provided the paper for the insert, disc manufacturers, the mosquito in the studio that kept quiet for them to lace tracks etc can claim a Grammy nomination!

I’m done with all this banal talk, it’s getting irritating!

  26. Tony Dozie says:

notjust ok pls don’t be a dump for crap. We av enjoyed ur work so far. Pls don’t loose ur credibility.

This is the grammy nomination from grammy website.

I did a check up on wikipedia and the writers are the same Charles Harmon and Claude Kelly.

Tiwa cannot write anything more than Kele Kele Love.

There is a Nigerian girl called Nnenna Yvonne. That’s the kind of quality you should be promoting here. I know there are bills to be paid but please, consider integrity. We love u guys here.

    I am so disappointed.
How can you guys be so gullible?
even myself a non music die hard could smell the crap in this story from a mile away, yet you guys who make a living from this, fell for such.
    I am so disappointed.
better remove this thing before you wreck your reputation.

  28. dangel says:

  32. Liyia Joy Aigbe says:
